Melinda Halverson - Director of Bands
Melinda Halverson grew up in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. She became interested in music at an early age, singing, and began playing Horn in the 5th grade. Graduating from Parkers Prairie high school in 2000 she pursued a degree in Music Education at Bemidji State University. Halverson double majored in vocal and instrumental music education. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2004 Halverson took her first teaching job in South Shore, South Dakota as a K-12 band, choir, and general music teacher.
In 2006 Halverson was accepted to Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio for Graduate Studies. While at BGSU she directed the St. Aloysius 5th - 8th grade band, was the teaching assistant for Instrumental Studies, and mentored undergraduate college students in their instrumental teaching practicums.
After graduating with her Masters of Music in 2008 she moved to Bismarck, North Dakota and took a job teaching K-5 general music at Mary Stark Elementary in Mandan, North Dakota. In 2013 she was able to return to teaching band as the Associate Band Director for Bismarck High School. In 2016 she took the position as head band director at Horizon Middle School.
Halverson is a member of the National Association for Music Education and the National Band Association, and is the Co-Coordinator for Share the Music.
Melinda Halverson is married to Adam Halverson and they have two daughters, Anna and Elizabeth, and a dog, Cesar and cat, Pip.
Sona Houle - Associate Band Director
Sona Houle grew up in New Salem, North Dakota. She has a Bachelors of Science in Music Education from North Dakota State University. Mrs. Houle is married to Mike Houle. She has two daughters, Megan and Hannah and one Son Davis.
Brad Stockert - Percussion Instructor
Brad Stockert earned a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Mary. His teaching experience ranges from elementary to the college level. He has adjudicated percussion auditions for North Dakota All-State Concert Band, Orchestra and Jazz Band, and has appeared as a guest clinician around the state. He currently works as a percussion specialist in the Bismarck Public Schools at Horizon, Simle, and Wachter Middle Schools. He also teaches private percussion lessons and performs in a variety of local performance groups.
